My father in law finds cool things and sends them to us all the time, one of his most recent finds was Madagascar the game for the PlayStation 2. I enjoyed the movie and thought that it was pretty funny so I checked out the game. If you haven’t seen the movie defiantly don’t play this game if you intend on seeing it. Also if you haven’t seen the movie you might not get some of the character settings, or jokes that are stated.

I guess before I really get into this review I should state that I haven’t totally finished the game yet. Although I’ve played enough to get a good gist of my feelings of the game.’

So the game starts out in the Zoo, and you go around basically getting to know all of the character’s and what their actions are. Then you are playing as the Zebra (Marty), and have to break out of the zoo. In order to break out you have to find different ways around the guards. It was barely tricky, but once you got the gist it was easy and fun. After you get out of the zoo the other character’s go looking for Marty in the city. Of course it ends with them getting caught and being put on a boat. I don’t fully know how, but the penguins are as well on the boat and get lose. Once again your trying to get past the guards to take over the boat. This ending in a mishap of the other character’s falling off the edge and being stranded on an island. Once again playing as Marty you go around the jungle trying to find your friends. I had just meet up with my friends when I last played, but if you’ve seen the movie you know how it goes from there. If you haven’t seen the movie that’s good since I won’t be wrecking the end for you. I personally would state that trying to break out of the zoo, and getting off the boat has been my favorite part of the game.

One of the other things about the game is that you can buy upgrades and such with money that you get while playing the game. I haven’t really done much of that yet since they are a bit too expensive. There is a few mini-game upgrades that you can buy, which is slightly odd. The best part of the mini-games is that it allows you to play with friends where the rest of the game is 1 player.

The mini-games are Tiki Mini-Golf, Shuffleboard, and Lemur Rave. The Lemur Rave I’ll speak of first since I have the least to say. I don’t recall playing this one, but it just sounds silly as all get out. Your pushing buttons to match the ones on the screen to “motivate the Lemurs into a dancing frenzy”.  The Tiki Mini-Golf was kind of fun and enjoyable,  until the last few levels then they just got stupid hard. If I wanted to play a crazy and hard golf game that’s what I would have bought. Although overall I enjoyed playing it with my husband and seeing just how crazy the levels got. The Shuffleboard is just that, you pick your character and try to get them down the board which is in the middle of a pool on a intertube. They are something fun to laugh at and to kick back while your relaxing from the actual game, but that’s all.

The actual game play has it’s good and bad point just like any game would. The storyline seems pretty true to the movie as far as I can remember. Yes the movie was more a child’s type, but I wouldn’t state that this game would be. I think that this game would be best played bye teenager’s. The storyline makes it downplayed bye the child’s standpoint, but the actual controls and handling of the game makes it too hard for children to play. I personally got slightly frustrated at points, which is why I’m stating this. For each character you have to remember what dose what. Then each time you start something different you have to figure out what they are asking of you. They don’t have that good of direction of what you should be doing.

Although this is only my point of view and I understand that I wasn’t a child prodigy of video games. Maybe the new generation groomed by video games would enjoy it, especially if your a parent willing to help them if they get stuck.

So once again I’m not a big judge on the sound and looks of a game. I thought that for a PlayStation 2 this game looks nice. Although some points on the island when your in the forest it’s too dark. The controls did what they were suppose to when you did what they were meant to do. The sound was realistic and didn’t have much if any glitches to it.

So overall this is a fun game something just to go through if you enjoyed the movie. I’d say I wouldn’t pay more than $5.00 dollars on it though. If you have a teenager at home that’s looking for a good, cheap, quick game this is one I would get.
